PTO Re-Opens to Public

Bernard (Bernie) P. Codd focuses his practice on patent prosecution and opinions in the areas of semiconductor devices and semiconductor device manufacturing, as well as battery, fuel cell, photolithography, magnetic media, chemical, metallurgy and polymer technologies. Bernie has successfully prosecuted patent reexaminations, reissues and numerous patent appeals, including oral arguments. Bernie’s practice includes patent application drafting and providing opinions on patent validity and infringement. Bernie was a primary patent examiner with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in the photolithography, electrophotography, semiconductor and photovoltaic arts. In addition, he has almost a decade of experience as an engineer in the research, development and manufacturing of a wide range of batteries. Bernie is a coauthor of the Patent Applications Handbook, published annually by Westlaw. He has given numerous presentations on patent prosecution, including an LLM course at the Max Planck Institute. Bernie also has written numerous case notes and patent law articles for McDermott Will & Emery’s monthly IP Update, AIPLA publications and other publications. While in law school, Bernie was an associate editor of the University of Baltimore Law Review and the manuscript editor for the University of Baltimore Intellectual Property Law Journal. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.
